I signed up with these guys about a week and a half ago and I still havnt got an email from them confirming my account and I even sent them an email through the website troubleshooting bit and nada.

Oh I think this is my first post here so hi everyone.

Im pretty much looking at importing a soarer or a 32 without a broker, looking to have it as a second/project car and do compliance myself.

If anyone has any other good sites please point me over their, thanks.

You may need to do some further research. You can no longer import an R32 under the 15 year rule - hence can't do the compliance yourself. It will need to be imported under the SEVS?RAWS scheme & good luck finding a workshop for that. As for the Soarer it needs to be 1988 or older, otherwise it is SEVS/RAWS. The problem with importing yourself is that some of the SEVS?RAWS workshops don't want to know you.

Okai I gotta read up on these rules a bit more, might be better for me to find a local one with a blown motor.

Because im planning on giving it a rebuild hence it being my project car.

Well you can be assured that there are plenty of R32's around, so have fun finding one. Buy a good one, not a cheap one.

Best bet is to give the workshop a ring and/or go and see them. Most shops that deal with the public have a website, so check that too. As for the models of Soarers they can comply it will really depend on what they have applied for. Again, easiest thing is to ring & ask.

prestige motorsport and import101(and others probs) have still got cars eligible for import under the 15 year rule. better hurry thou cos once these few run out thats it.

EDIT: the service fee for these 2 is around 1000 dollars which isnt anything for peace of mind and having it all done for u.

Ascenion24 give Mark Hocking an email. I found he was much more responsive then motor world, and a lot of people off these forums have used him to import cars with great results, without using an Australian based middle-man.

I have used Motor world myself twice, the first time through a broker and the second time I already knew one of the guys there so importing a second car myself, wasn’t a problem. They may be funny about dealing directly with the public. I find this strange because a long while ago a person there was telling me they were going to open a new website to sell directly to anyone.

How is it less of a gamble then buying directly off the people they buy off?

Agreed, give Mark Hocking an email. His service is second to none, and will buy you an awesome car! He will put that extra effort in to get exactaly what you want.

You will not regret it, I too got in contact with him through the reputation he has on this website and he has certainly lived up to it.

Bloke, I know you have issues with brokers, but please don't tar Danny (Imports101) with the same brush as Geoff (Prestige Motorsports). To be clear (& to follow the forum rules) I have had very good experiences with Danny when it comes to standing by his guarantee that the vehicle delivered matched the desciption sent. There was a problem not of his making, but he fixed it.

He also sorted the transport, customs, compliance, rego - basically everything. For some of us the money spent on a broker is money well spent - not least because for me it means I don't have to take time off work to go & sort details & move cars & jump through all the other hoops that you need to to get an import on the road.

One final thing - the number of SEVS/RAWS workshops for some models is very limited. They may not necessarily be too happy about missing out on the brokerage work. So they may not want to comply your car for you. It would pay to make sure you have found a compliance workshop BEFORE going either direct from Japan or through an independent broker.

just remember that you are paying the service fee of $1000 on top of the fee charged by the japnese supplier (usually around 100K yen). Just make sure you are getting some value for your fee.

because people in Japan have actually seen the car, not like blindly buying off some site and hoping it isnt a scam. And by piece of mind i also mean they take care of all the work for u, shipping etc.

and seriously have u been through the process u twat?? if u have then u should know that they take care of shipping, payment and they give a slight inspection of the car in Japan, not just send a few emails.

These next few lines should break it down for those who are a little slow at understanding whats being said.

I myself imported the first time through a broker with great results.

I myself realised that the broker actually did nothing for me and imported a second time without a broker with great results.

Both times involved almost exactly the same amount of effort.

Both cars were bought from the same supplier in japan.

Importing myself saved me $1100.

i mean like u get a run down of condition of the vehicle and stuff, and they organise and consult with the supplier which in turn organises it. why do people have to be such d*cks on forums. if u were like this in the real world ud be laying on the pavement with a foot in ur ribs. owell be a pathetic little chum.

Late reply, but I don't really want to let this go through to the wicket keeper.

You may have not differentiated between the two import companies (Imports101 & Prestige) but I do - simply because I have used both of them & Imports101 stood by their guarantee when the delivered car differed from the description provided by the Japanese supplier. It wasn't a problem of their making, but they fixed it...

Imports101 is both a broker & the compliance shop - hence your distinction between the two is not always necessary. The advantage of this arrangement (not uncommon) is that it provides a link between the purchase of the vehicle & compliance of the same. If your broker & your compliance shop are different & you strike problems it is easy to get stuck in the middle & out of pocket. If they are one and the same & offer a service guarantee you should not have a problem. I made the distinction because in my opinion having the broker and the compliance shop as one greatly reduces the risk of something going wrong.

My other point stands. I could make the arrangements for customs via a customs broker, transport, etc etc etc, but to do so means time off work & a heap of travel. I have done this before & I much prefer to allow others to do the work for me.

Lastly, under the previous scheme it was quite common for compliance shops to refuse to do compliance work on cars they did not import themselves. So you may well save $1000 on brokerage fess, but that doesn't help much if no one will comply the car for you.

My facts are straight. :D

    • Hey all, not sure how active SAU is anymore but will ask away anyways. Just wanted to get some experience on the 2008 model GTR CBA model.  I've hit that age in my life (43) where I'm like fk it time to get my dream (midlife crisis) car. Looking at importing one in and seeing if these can be reliable if the main flaws are fixed up. Plan is to keep money aside to do the following straight off the bat to future proof it: * install a stage 1 rebuilt trans with all new bits and pieces.  * install a new Bellhousing from the later model GTRs. Or potentially an upgraded stronger version like MAD or ATR. Besides the above two things and typical maintenance items anything else you'd recommend doing.   Been speaking to a few people and the engine on these are very reliable apparently. But keen on the view of the community here. Hoping to find a nice grade 4.5 with low mileage in Grey. I'd go black but swirls too easy. Look forward to your responses and feedback. Cheers

    • Hey all, I'm Gaston from Sydney's West.  I was a member on here when I was a younger lad and owned a mint R33 GTS-T. Ended up selling it and getting married having kids (yadda yadda) we all know how the story goes. Now I'm back with the intention to get my midlife crisis (dream) car ... a R35 GTR.  You'll see me about asking questions and searching the forums. Good to be back and can't wait to get back an Import again.
    • I have to put something here in order to post the photos. From what I could gather there's more enthusiasm for modified cars now than there has been for years. There were probably more younger people there than older (me included lol) which was a good sign.  It did seem like the record least amount of representation of the 90's era hero cars on display though. Like maybe one or two examples of S-chassis Nissans, and maybe 3 or 4 R-chassis. By comparison there were a lot of Civics from that era but in all there were about 10 - 12 EG/EK Civic Type R.  Euro exotics are always there in large numbers, led by Liberty Walk...... say what you will about kids using markers to scribble on a Ferrari F40, it did seem like a stunt to infuriate Ferrari enthusiasts, or Ferrari itself. I wonder if there's something more to it. Either way LBWK have done some heinous things to a Lamborghini Miura this time. They should stop now.
    • Engines and drivelines are not war stoppers for me mate, busted arse bodies and un-obtainium parts and panels are though Both cheap Brumbies I looked at had trashed tubs and a fair bit of rust
