hey guys, just a quick question..

I was driving down through Coogee Saturday/Sunday late at night 17/18 December... and was going up towards Maroubra at around 40ish i think.. anyway i looked to my left along the beach near the Palace and there was a group of guys that looked as if they had been watching me come up and had bottles in their hands drinking. One of them made a gesture as if he was going to throw it at me so i sped a little bit up maybe to 60ish as there was also a hill coming up. Anyway i went past and then on the *other* side of the road there was a police car with i think a little speed camera thing on the side of it and previously during the night when i drove down earlier to pick up a mate its lights had been flashing saying controlled zone etc ... anyway as i drove past with the little speed up, the cop's lights went up and the controlled LED's and the lights flashed up again. I came back down the hill and it's lights were still going some 5-8 mins later...

So what I'm wondering is do you think i should be expecting a speeding fine anytime soon? :P

Because I don't think i can afford to lose 3 demerit points :O

Without giving legal advice, your best bet is to wait out until you hear anything, if at all. No use worrying about it in the meantime.

That said, if you do get a notice, it might be worthwhile to explain to the police the reason why you were speeding - but no promises there.

The only other thing is (and I'm not recommending you do this, but...) if you declare that someone else was driving, but generously pay the amount owing on the fine on their behalf, then they will only incur the demerit point loss. And if, say, it was your aunty or mum who was driving at the time (and never normally exceeds the limit), then odds on they won't get booked again and the demerit points will reset and you'll be fine.

That said, I ONLY recommend doing that if someone else WAS driving, cos otherwise, it could be seen as evading the law... :P

Like I said, I'm not giving legal advice here, just playing with some ideas!

Hope it Helps.

the only way you get a fine i the mail is fixed speed camera only. You have to get physically pulled over and handed a fine if you get detected by radar.Dont worry your safe.

I concur. If they DID have a camera mounted somewhere, there'd have been a rather bright flash. A roof-mounted laser/radar speed detector only tells the officer in the car how fast you were going, and if he doesn't give chase and hand you that fine, then you won't get one at all.

It'd be pointless for them to even mail you a fine, because without a speed readout and a photo of your car, they can't hold it up in court.

There are plenty of mobile speed cameras that get around. But if it was a mobile camera that took your picture there must be a sign erected on the road that can be seen from both directions. Also if it was a mobile camera it has a flash just like the fixed ones.

If none of this happened then you are okay, as you need to have the ticket physically written out and given to you on the spot if it is not a mobile camera.

Mobile cameras are generally mounted inside a fully marked police wagon, not set up on the side of the road.

Cheers

    • Pic of Nos, turbo kit and sequential not loading. 404 not found
    • im sure mine stays in gear and wont shift unless i shift it? and for sure it wont go back to Auto mode if its put in manual mode? if i use paddles but its still in D then of course it goes back to auto mode. but yer if its in -+ and i use paddles it will not auto change gears what so ever and i have tried this. it will gear down if at a stop though which is kinda nice but goes back to 1st gear not D. i think it used to be like this with imports aswell i dunno if its really like it anymore like when i got my R33 it had alot of JDM options which local cars didnt have. Now local cars have kinda caught up even the lower models. but yer transfer rates and other things makes it almost on par.
    • Very decent bit of kit. Definitely black it out I reckon.
    • Because people who want that are buying euros. The people with the money to buy the aftermarket heads and blocks aren’t interested in efficiency or making -7 power, they’re making well over 1,000hp and pretty much only drive them at full throttle  best way to way make money is know your customer base and what they want and don’t spend money making things they don’t want.
    • It's not, but it does feel like a bit of a missed opportunity regardless. For example, what if the cylinder head was redesigned to fit a GDI fuel system? It's worth like two full points of compression ratio when looking at modern GDI turbo vs PFI turbo. I'm pretty reliably surprised at how much less turbo it takes to make similar power out of a modern engine vs something like an RB26. Something with roughly the same dimensions as a -7 on an S55 is making absolutely silly power numbers compared to an RB26. I know there's a ton of power loss from things like high tension rings, high viscosity oil, clutch fan, AWD standby loss, etc but it's something like 700 whp in an F80 M3 vs 400 whp in an R33 GTR. The stock TF035HL4W turbos in an F80 M3 are really rather dinky little things and that's enough to get 400 whp at 18 psi. This just seems unwise no? I thought the general approach is if you aren't knock limited the MFB50 should be held constant through the RPM range. So more timing with RPM, but less timing with more cylinder filling. A VE-based table should accordingly inverse the VE curve of the engine.
