First off; this is not a cruise, not a BBQ or even a dyno day... this is a workshop day or sorts, I just didn't know where else to post it so I guess Events would make sense...

INFORMATION:

A few of us were talking about painting brake calipers today and came to the conclusion that a group effort on all the cars would be a good idea. This way, we succeed together and fail together :) Hopefully all goes well and we all leave with shiny new brake calipers!

I'm just posting the details so anyone who is interested can join in the fun! The location may be out of the way for some, so it's entirely up to you. If we finish in good time we may do something after seeing it's a holiday and all :D

DATE:

Boxing Day; 26 December 2005 (will be confirmed)

TIME:

Looking at a 10am start to get through all the cars and have plenty of time for the paint to dry!

LOCATION:

After checking with my mum, she said it's ok to have it at her factory complex car park which has enough parking for 100 cars (across 4 levels), on dead flat surfaces.

Only condition is we keep the concrete clear of paint and I make sure everyone who turns up is known/trusted (for security reasons). She is not the only tennant there, other tennants include BMW, Porsche not 1 but 2 import workshops!

MAP:

Below is a map of the place where this will be held, I am happy to do a 9:00am meet at Chatswood for those who won't know the way.

EQUIPMENT:

As all the nearby workshops will be closed, and this is purely a car park - all tools and equipment will need to be brought along. If you have any of the following, please post up here and bring it with you on the day.

* Heavy Duty Car Jacks (will need two per car)

* Normal Car Jacks (will need four per car)

* Bricks x 4 (just in case not enough jacks)

* Newspaper (obvious)

* Masking Tape

* Wet + Dry Paper

* Any tools to remove your wheels (remember lock nut adaptors)

Paint will be provided by each person... you are responsible for getting this before you rock up on the day. There is a thread in here with the types of paints needed. A few other members and I are trying to organize a group buy for the paint but no promises, better have something prepared than to be sorry on the day.

That said, anyone who can get a discount on this paint please post up here :D We will love you for it!

I think that's it for now... will add more later if it comes up :)

EDIT: We might organize to have a bbq or something there too :P because all the shops and stuff are closed, food will be a bitch to find on the day; all depends on how many people turn up - we could all pitch in some food or bbq gear :)

RSVP LIST:

* satanic >>> Gold

* rukus >>> Gold

* Wink

* d00dz >>> Blue

* ecl

* Miss Turbo

* ranicx >>> Gold

good idea mate. but a little advice. you only need 2 stands (or 4 if you want to do front and rear at the same time) per car and say 1 jack between 3 or 4. I would never work on a car that is not supported by proper stands. jacks have been known to bleed down, or simply fail. and landing on you, or even on bricks is not nice.

I would say get each person to bring 2 or 4 stands, and try and get 1 jack between 3 or 4 people.

have fun :)

Sorry mate, the date has to be around the public holiday period. It's only those dates when I can guarantee an empty car park and the place to ourselves.

With painting going on, I think it would be the best option right?

Guys another tip is use WOOD not bricks. Get some 4x4 or 4x2 wood pieces and chop them into 1ft long blocks. You will need about 4 per side. Bricks tend to break if the car lands on them hard and also tends to scratch the underside of the lower control arms.

Also KFC is around the corner (walking distance) so food may not be a problem.

Just got off the phone with Autobarn; the VHT Caliper Paints go for RRP $14.99 per can... the guy said we'd be able to get it for $13 per can assuming an order of 10-15 cans.

Colors are quite limited though;

Black

Orange

Blue

Red

Looks like d00dz is in luck :D

dang, gold was sounded good.. gold/chrome rims, gold calipers, would look nice

i think i have 4 car stands floating around in the garage somwhere. got a light/medium (i think) too.. it does leak a lil and not always go all the way up, so stands are a must.. wouldnt work with out stands anyway :D

where can i get this fancy gold paint stuff for calipers? :)

oh also, wet + dry paper? do ya mean wet and dry sand paper?

hey tight is good! .. (better then loose :lol:) .. lol

seriously though, y spend more money to get the same thing? the stock 4 piston calipers are good, i dont see the need to upgrade to brembos unless ya got serious power over what is stock

anyway, back on topic, ill be there stan if im able to find some of this gold paint :)

yep loose is not good haha

if uz are talking about the gold paint that i think u are... thats the way to go!

i rememba doing the r32 brakes with this other high temp spray... it used to pick up and stain grime and oily shit into it and would look black and greasy in a month time...

the gold one is awesome.
