The cost of tyres is cheap compared to the cost of life.

On my GTR I have Bridgestone RE55 semi slicks and on my S15 I have Advan AO48's.

I cant see the point in upgrading everything on your car to increase performance yet the only part that contacts the road is compromised.

Just plain stupid.

i agree benl1981, i forked out $900 for my hankook K104's, great tyres ;)

255/40ZR17's were $245 each

235/45ZR17's were $185 each

a friend of mine just had to replace the 215/40R17's on his rex recently, i told him to go with the hankooks, or something of similar quality, to which he replied 'no point wasting money on tyres, they all last the same time, blah blah'

so he spent ~$450 on some brand i cant remember, as opposed to about $800 for the hankooks.

1 week ago he understeered ever so slightly into a kerb, cost him $1650....

now i wont say the hankooks would 100% have stopped that, but id go as far to say as they would have helped him understeer a bit less, or even stopped the understeer from ever happening...

so his tyres basically just cost him $2000+.. and he still has them.

You don't even need it back to back.

When I put on RT215s on my previous car, an otherwise stock Pulsar, it was night and day in terms of my braking points and corner entry and midpoint speeds.

I drove on the stock Dunlop Sport 2000's, Pirelli P5000s and some Silverstone POS'....they were all pretty close in the dry (the Pirellis were standout in the wet).

You could feel minor differences, but not like the first time you decide not to brake for a corner and the tyres don't squeal...actually they just shrug off your cornering attempt and call you a pansy for going so slow.

Ok - can anyone can answer the question about the Simexs? I have heard they are quite a good tyre..just not sure about in the wet. I have an awesome set of micheline pilot premacy on the rear that I can hardly get to step out at all.

From what I hear the simex is quite a good budget tyre - just wondering about its wet weather performance. I'm not going to be pushing it too hard on the street - that's for losers!!!

at the moment im jsut getting free tyers at work for the street, 245-255/35/R17 continenals, NOW befor you say they suck, yes, they arent has good as some $500 R compound, but.. if BMW can put them on a 400hp M5, they are going to be fine for me on the street for my 200rwkw skyline.

My old man's 318i has Continentals on it too. A whopping 80kW at the flywheel through an auto gearbox, and it can still chirp the rear tyres in the wet. When I turn at an intersection at anything above walking pace, the car doesn't know whether to understeer or oversteer.

In case you missed the point, what I'm saying is that just because a tyre company makes a great flagship tyre (Continentals, being German, are standard fitment on most Euro cars...including the lower spec Boxsters and 911s) doesn't mean their volume sales gear is any good.

Look at Falken. Their RT215s are a great performance tyre, but I could eat a curry and defecate a better tyre than the Ziex 326's.

im using the actual tyers that come on the hp monsters, right now i have a set off boxster lol

wet weather contact is damn good, but you still have to becareful, the dry, well, they are good, but arent fantastic, traction is ok, but no traction at 5000rmp lauchs, they'll just spin though 1st and chirp 2nd.

when i save some more cash ill be getting a set of semis for the trackdays and what nots, i dont see a reason to use $500 a corner tyers for driving to work and back during the week, the conti's can handle that job fine.

I didnt really get into the techhy parts of tyers, but this thread seems to be going the right way and teachn afew things B)

    • I would again like too thank Matt for his help in me sourcing the detachable hard top for the little red car, without Matt's assistance in inspecting it and locking it down, I can guarantee it would have sold before I could get up to see it,  and as that was the only available NC hardtop in Australia, I consider myself extremely lucky on multiple levels To say I'm more that happy would be an understatement And, it is 100% water tight, I drove through torrential rain coming back south, and by torrential, they type of rain that doing 40kph in a 110kph zone was a real thing, and even then, the standing water on the Hwy was deep enough to throw waves I'm also more than happy that the huge "BEASTS" that Matt calls dogs didn't eat me for lunch, I'm sure the sniffs and licks were more to "taste test" me, over being to friendly Now to work out what colour to get it painted, panel match, or gloss black........first world problems are real
    • Actually I might have figured out. Looks like there is a tab according to google images but it's hidden. Silly me.
    • No clips on this one like the other connector. Only that red tab that I can push slightly up.
    • For any loom connector that has an obvious release that resists pushing far enough to unclip, just spray some silicone lube into it. You might also benefit from using a bent screwdriver or small pick to push in the right place at the right angle.
    • Hey all, I went to try and fix my indicator not canceling, but I couldn't remove the clockspring cable under the column so I could twist that green thin. Anyone know how to remove this cable? I see this red tab but didn't have any luck. I was thinking of unscrewing it but wasn't sure if it would cause issues. I did notice for my indicator stalk, 2 out of 3 cables were plugged in but the last cable wouldn't fit in the stalk. I'm getting it's for fog lights. It was like this when I originally pulled it off.
