R32 Gtst Vs Vl Turbo

Recommended Posts

I did not ask if you wankers (MCF05/slide247) thought of VLT's in general, nor what you (who the fck are you anyway) thought of the people who drive them.

I was after serious factual replies based on peoples actual experiences. Like the other guy said there is no need to slander vlt's making statements that leave people feeling dumber and irritated.

The board is not for you to come into any thread you please and put a car down because you think your car may be better than the one mentioned or you dont like the people that drive them.

Thanks to those that provided useful info, im not sure it will be getting filmed but i will post back in the future how we go.

Mick

I think it would be a very very close race but I would see the VL catch it up top due to the gear ratios and lighter weight. :D

gear ratios are the same as far as i know

5th might be shorter

final drive may be different

curious to see what wins, due to diff ratios i would say the vl will have more top speed but if you can pull a few car lenghts on it early on it might not be able to chase you down. can you please post up race results including distance, road conditions(um i mean track) and obvious different setups between cars. You would think the skyline would have more traction over the vl on the street and be able to grab enough of a lead to finish it off, but on the other hand i wouldnt underestimate the vl. ?????????? interesting.

The diff ratio of the vl cancels out the fact that the rb20det rev's higher.

Check out this dyno comparison from a recent dyno day, all done in 4th gear.

Natho has a VLT RB30ET with only a 2.5" exhaust, 13-14psi on the stock turbo, and small AVO fmic. He made 187rwkw. Pretty damn good effort.

Chris32 runs a 3.5" exhaust, PFC, HKS 2510 & FMIC.

Ronin runs an Rb20DET, exhaust, fmic, rb25 turbo at 14psi and a remapped ecu. 190rwkw.

Oosh runs a fairly stock R32, from memory only an exhaust and a little boost.

As you can see the R32's do have the edge with regards to top end and they also have roughly the same bottom end torque at the rear wheels low in the rpm due to the R32's running a 4.363:1 diff ratio.

Then there's my RB30DET that hardly rev's due to the stock log manifold, stock cams and small turbo.

Conclusion... I still think the VLT will have the edge due to having less lag and a little more mid range even though the diff ratio is working against it. It also has the advantage of the solid rear axle that holds all of the tyre on the road unlike the IRS that squats and runs on the inside of the tyre. Providing the skyline has its camber setup well without stiff suspension it should be ok.

BUT.. come highspeed, who knows. I don't know the drag coefficient of the R32's nor do I know them for the VLT's.

Aero dynamics will be the determining factor.

None the less it will be very close providing the R32 owner can drive decently and get past the lag without bogging it down or turning the tyres to smoke when launching. If the VLT gets the jump you won't be catching it. Chances are it will get the jump due to its solid axle that holds the tyres flat on the road not to forget it won't require as many rev's to get off the line as the turbo will spool quicker than the rb20det.

Many VLT owners have dropped well matched T3/4's or BB turbo's on their VLT's and experienced no lag difference to the stock bush turbo. The stock turbo does lag a little compared to whats around these days.

  • 2 weeks later...

as i always say.... just race. i raced my mates v8 5litre (statesmen) with a claimed 192kw... he bet my by a car length.....

considering my car is a sr20de front wheel drive auto...

he won... but was dissapointed coz i was right behind him. i belive if i was manual it would be neck and neck or i would beat him. only reason he won was because he took off from the word go and i caught up to him after first....

PS "winnings winning, wether its by an inch or a mile"

but your also looking at double over head cams and all that sought of stuff too no wouldnt that equal some things out to the rb30?

i would have thought the 32 would beat it, but i dont know enought about them.

In the end take the cars on a race track and you will know the 32 is a race car not a go straight car.

r32 should hook up heaps better than the vl - especially if vl has no lsd.

Having owned commos and raced them in skylines/silvias commos just are crap off the line UNLESS you do work to the suspension.

Rolling? Depends on how quick you're going - I can just beat a r33 gtr @ 20km/hr rollon in first gear but still am getting crazy wheelspin.

The commodore will lose I'd say at a 20 kay roll on - it'll still just spin.

    • There are fixes for this. In industry we use compressed air for everything. It is frequently wet, and many things cannot tolerate it. So there are various forms of driers available that you can install. The simplest option for something like this would be a dessicant drier. Much cheaper to replace some silica gel than actuator cylinders.
    • That's a solid update mate, well done at WA FOS. You may already know this, but the actuators on the paddle shift are a service item and are sadly not that reliable. As I understand it they collect water from the compressor (condensation) which then rusts the bores/pistons in the actuators. A mate of mine had no end of trouble with them in one if his circuit cars, apparently it's a 'known issue'. Buy a couple of spares at great expense to ensure you never have any problems with the ones you've got! Any clues about what the new WTAC rules might be? While faster cars are cool the Pro class arms race has got to the point where you wouldn't even bother entering without a $1m budget and even then I don't think you'd win.

You can see another picture of it here: https://www.alltranz.com.au/shop/drivetrain/automatic-transmission/RE5R01A/product/9305/ The 4 speed automatic in the GTT is Nissan corporate stuff. You can search up similar jobs done on a Frontier or Pathfinder with a RE4R01B to get an idea for what the internals are going to look like and the procedure like this:
    • Hi Chris,   long time since your post, just wondering if you have the Pinout for the v35 stereo plugs, I bought the roem nis2 harness but it doesn’t match the v35 connector. any help appreciated, I can work out the grn and power constant. But the rest might be hard. thanks Tyson
