Got the loan secured. yeay for me!!!

purchased a bit of a lemon GTR in Perth but resonable price. Just now got my second loan approved for the upgrades as there are quite a few things missing.

Car originally had HKS turboes, decent POD fliter, CAMS, ECU, and a few other goodies. All of which where stripped...

so now to replace them all and get this rough running biatch cleaned up...

ANY IDEAS????

got approved for 7,000 plus my bike so technically have 10-12ish...

looking for a good setup and definately a carbon bonnet, this one is all scratched. all other cash is for engine mods. am definately under the impression it has had internals changed as i have driven other gtr's and apart from the rough run (suspect ecu) goes pretty hard.

Car presently has exhaust and cat, blow-off valces and intercooler. abs removed and hks boost controller.

thanks guys hope to see you all at some meets.... ;)

umm yeah the dodgy kind...

got an oil leak in driver side in front of wheel well. all pools under the intercooler hose. bit strange. and sounds like a leak in the exhaust before the turbo. makes a whistle when cold when on boost. but only on low boost not high...

so yeah i am getting it fully looked over before i get stuck right into it...

still would like some good advice so far as reputtable tuners and what ecu most use over here. (only going to be as good as its tuner really).

also what power would i get before i need injectors, rail and pump...

this is first stage then in 3 months getting the hks-ss or garretts...

really chasing some nice power gains from her. going to be abit of a thrash around. if i need rebuild im not fussed then i have an excuse for jun or hks stroker... muhahahaha!!!

pretty sure it is standard internals. however stranger things have happened.. (mate imported a gtr stock, got here with hks turboes and fully worked stroker engine) bah i want one!!! or maybe he lied about how much he paid <_<

Be carefull of net recommendations for shops,Go to all of them and see for your self what we have to offer.

considering this i would prefer the opinions of customers.... i am new to perth and hence would like some direction. I really would like some opinions of mods and recommendations still for shops. its ok i am a big boy i can decifer it all.... :D

no point going to a shop that cant tune my stuff or supply the parts required...

but thanks for the replies thus far...

as NIB said, this forum is abit biased, and all the bad comments about a few "reccomended shops" get deleted because they pay money to keep a good reputation on here anyway!

prepare to wait for any major work with these shops as they take for f**kin ever.

check out my rant thread which got locked a few weeks back in the WA section, and i recieved plenty of similiar feedback from other people on the forums.

whats the point of the forum then????

thought it would be here to give some direction and let others learn from mistakes of fellow users. not just get paid to only give good reputations to dodgy operators.

fair enough. have searched as much as i can on here. anyone want to shed some light on local shops and real experiences with them please pm then....

still not sure which way to steer for stage 1!!

There are a heap of shops around, some of which specialise in Jap import.

NIB is correct, don't believe what some of the people on here say in regards to the shops avaliable. Unfortunately you can't please everyone all the time.

As a suggestion try some of the following

XSpeed

Hyperdrive Motorsport

Top Racing

Speedworks

Cypher Industries

Supertec

Raheem

plus a few others that I can't remember.

Ring them, talk to them and make your own mind up as to who you want.

As said before , don't let some of the people here bias you just because they think they got a dud deal.

Cheers

Ken

think i may have found roughly what i want....

what do you guys think of these mods, mainly support mods....

z32 afm

nismo fuel rail

nismo 600cc injectors

nismo plenum

nismo fuel pump

nismo oil pump

pfc

what else would be necessary??

next stage will be turboes still deciding on garretts or hks....

anything else. what sort of power would this support....

p.s i like nismo...

theres not really any point unfortunetly ......

thats not to say I agree with anything thats been posted about various workshops , but the current forum policy means you cant even dicsuss it to establish the truth

as nib said I would get your engine thoroughly checked before you start this , theres no point spending 12k and finding you need an engine rebuild after its gone

Edited by arkon

Every workshop has customers who are not satisfied and on the other hand, they have customers who are extremely happy with the service. Just because 95% of the people say that "x" workshop is great, doesnt mean they wont do something that YOU won't be happy with. This happens with every customer driven business.... restaurants, phone companies ...whatever!

You need to go a workshop (pick one that is close to your house for example) and if you like their work, stay with them, if you dont then try somewhere else until you find a mechanic that you are happy with.

Good luck with the new car - hope to see you on a cruise soon

-You can either get the z32's or the Power FC D-Jetro which suppliments them

-Fuel rails are a waste of time....

-I'd change to the SARD 700cc injectors

-R32 GTR plenum is well enough to support intake

Also consider Greddy and HKS and maybe TOMEI if you go internal as well

check out www.nengun.com for some decent prices....They have EVERYTHING!. You can check some of the prices for Twin Turbo kits as I have been doing for a little while now as well B)

As Steve said you need to ascertain the basic health of your engine before you go speccing up parts. The rail and plenum are not necessary with low mount internal gate turbos. Stuff like the oil pump you'd do in conjunction with a rebuild rather than off the cuff.

As far as shops go gut feeling counts for a lot - and whether you get a good vibe from the people you're dealing with.

Oh and as a parting comment - stock RB26s work for 10 years or 100,000km - rarely both...

Jash

Here's a usefull peice of info that's based in age old reality;

1) You increase power = you wear things out faster = money and time

* As far as this concerns your search for a workshop I suggest you remember that anyone one stupid enough to give you a warranty for work aimed at enabling you to thrash your car with every greater joy is probably a bit too silly to do the work properly.Think about it... 'hi there I want to increase the power on my car so I can thrash my car can you give me a warranty?'. Bottom line is race cars don't come with warranties. A GTR is already very close to a race car so tipping it over the line means get ready for the enevitable. This means after you up the power one day, drive it out of the workshop (or your shed if you do things yourself) and the day after it just might break, thats life.

2) A personal project is a ball and chain, where the ball is time & money is the chain. You are going to be tied down for a while to get the car to the point where your happy with it and don't want to change another thing.

As far as workshops are concerned. If you rely on people to do work on your car (including yourself), there are always the unpredictable things in life to slow everything down. Ask anyone who has spent their lives restoring or hot rodding cars how many years a car can take to 'finish'. I know of plenty that have taken 3+years to finish without a lack of money to slow them down.

3) Spend a long time planning the whole car before you hand over cash. If you are new to the game you will make mistakes anyway with ideas you thought would be good but turn out to be a dissapointment. Turbo size comes to mind as an example. research is good experience is better. There are a number of great people about who are happy to show off their rides at cruises, even take you for a drive.

There's 2c worth of my advice. Sounds like cars aren't as much fun as people keep telling you? Well they still are if you aren't in a daydream about it.

C-Red,

you are quite right ,sometimes the Rb26's don't even last that long. Mine is still alive and healthy at 250,000kms but there are good reasons for that, the biggest is that it hasn't had a great deal of power put through it , even now.

    • Somehow Vertimass/Oak Ridge National Labs has figured out a catalyst that can convert ethanol into C9-C10 hydrocarbons in basically a single step without ending up with a bunch of ethylene or similar waste products: https://patents.google.com/patent/WO2023224867A1/en I still don't think anything like this will keep us from needing to transition to EVs regardless along with all kinds of other electrification, but things like this will go a long way towards alleviating the problem of how to electrify things like planes. Renewable diesel is seemingly an easier problem as well, Chevron is already running refineries for the stuff and the primary feedstock is tallow and other waste fats from agriculture.
    • Ok so I have sorted everything with my uniclutch and  i can offer up a bit of feedback and some things that might help others.    I found problems with factory damper line. Weird shit and had trouble with peddle adjustment    I used this https://au.gktech.com/products/r33-gts-t-skyline-braided-clutch-line?_pos=2&_sid=22b01b9b9&_ss=r Also when adjusting peddle leave a bit of play. You can get into a over stroke condition easy.. Make sure you can push the slave forward after adjusting to confirm fluid can return to master then you will need to pump it up heaps…..not sure why but that’s how it is.    last thing the splined adapter is machined perfectly. If your input shaft is old like mine was I would put a bit of valve grinding paste on it and stroke it like a 15 year old. Just to give it a tad more clearance and to better match it to the spline.    reason is on a near flat shift I have had situation where the peddle returns a millisecond after you lift from the clutch. No slip or anything but I reckon this is due to tolerance on the spline being way tighter than stock clutch and binding for a sec. I think this will go away but also my spline was old. Box is old so I guess I should have checked better. It’s a super neat fit.    it feels light as and holds awesome without any noise
    • My Fuga Hybrid is JDM, 2014 model but very similar to the V37 from the looks of things..same platform just physically larger and very comfortab;e
    • Was that Australia Delivered Duncan? Does it have siren etc?   I used to have remote start on an old 32 two decades ago, it was a cool feature. I used to wake up early in winter for work. Start it and by the time i was out the door a few minutes later the engine was warmed up and the heaters had the car toasty. It was great.    I don’t mine the ambience lighting.  I drive a western star and it has footwell lights and ambient lighting and it’s great! From the pics of seen of them installed in a skyline I think it’s a nice touch
    • re the security system, my Fuga/Q70 has the factory option where the puddle lights in the mirrors turn on when the prox key is detected, it was clearly dealer fitted and has a switch in the lower dash to disable it....it didn't have remote start but TBH I don't really miss that, I had it in the Stagea originally but never used it....we don't often have to warm the car up in the snow before we get in for Australia. And the Fuga also has the illuminated footwells, sounds like a useless feature but I actually quite like the indirect light within the car, it was a nice addition
