SECURITY
seeing as though noones replied ill just tell you what i do. 1. make sure the car isnt too hot so you dont burn yourself if you come into contact with it. and make sure its off!!! 2. undo your radiator cap. 3. there will be a screw on the right hand side of the bottom of the radiator (looking at the engine bay). undo that, make sure you dont lose the rubber washer between the screw and the radiator. this will make all of the water rush out. WATCH OUT, IT WILL COME OUT PRETTY HARD. 4. put the screw back in, then fill up with clean tap water then put the rad cap back on. 5. run your car for around 1min. then turn it off. 6. repeat steps 2-5 till the water comes out clean when its being drained. i use the nulon coolant that you have to mix yourself. i use a 50/50 mixture of distilled water/coolant. hope that helps. nsta
just to confirm, do you guys fill up the bottle that says coolant on it (yellow cap, bottom left hand side of engine bay)??? and fill it to max level??? thanks Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/99721-flushing-out-coolant-r33/#findComment-1819579 Share on other sites
benm
That's the 'overflow' bottle, you should have that about 1/3rd full (usually a mark on it). wrxhoon
What security said , if you want to get the coolant out of the block undo the block drain plug (on the exhaust side ) .If you want to empty the heater core put the climate control on max ( 32 i think ) and the ignition on . I usualy undo the radiator hoses and flush with fresh water , when all the water drains out then i do everything up and fill with selected coolant , i use ready mixed 33% , if you go to the snow use 50% .. when you are ready to refill there is a bolt on the plenum side ( it says never undo when hot near it ) , undo that and fill until coolant comes out of that , then do the bolt up and fill the reservoir the the max line as well . Drive at least until it gets to normal operating temp and when it cools down or the next morning take the rad cap off and check to make sure its still full , do the same with the plastic tank . nsta
thanks for the info guys. couple of quick questions before i go ahead. Ive bought some nulon coolant (1ltr) 1)how much litres to fill up radiator and overflow bottle? 2)it says that 1litre coolant mixed with 2litres water will make 3 litres, do i mix the coolant/water first then fill, or do it individually as the instructions say?i would think mixing first would be ideal cheers Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/99721-flushing-out-coolant-r33/#findComment-1824006 Share on other sites
wrxhoon
That will depend on how much coolant you leave in the system .If you empty out all out it will hold about 7-8 ltrs .You can mixed before you put in or add water after but if you add water after how would you know how much it will take ? Josh
Don't know if anyone said but don't do it when the engine is super hot cos the rush of cold coolant could damage the head... SECURITY
the water would more than likley heat up to the engine temp (radiator will more than likley be hot if the engine is hot), rather then the water cooling down the head at a rate that could damage the head. Is clean tap water ok or not??? oh and security, when you say: "4. put the screw back in, then fill up with clean tap water then put the rad cap back on." does that mean fill up both radiator and overflow bottle, or just radiator at this stage, and how much (do you mean fill up with ~8l's tap water)?, sorry man, new to diying lol Edited February 10, 2006 by nsta Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/99721-flushing-out-coolant-r33/#findComment-1940935 Share on other sites
