The GReddy Profec B-Spec 2 is becoming one of the more popular EBCs around and since I had one installed I thought I'd post a really simple photo guide on how install should look like on a RB25DET engine.

Picture 1

- The GReddy solenoid fully replaces the stock one.

- Black hose from the actuator goes to the GReddy solenoid as shown

- The red hose attached to the GReddy solenoid goes to Picture 2

- Electrics are wired up simply as shown.

- This photo is located at far end of the plenum, next to the BOV.

- The bottom red hose attached to the T-piece comes from the solenoid in Picture 1

- The right red hose goes to the plenum as shown.

- The black hose on the left goes to the BOV.

Picture 3

- This photo is located at near end of the plenum, next to the wiper washer bottle.

- The bottom hose with the filter attached goes to the main control unit inside the cabin.

- Other hoses are put together simply as shown.

Hope this helps some of you during a DIY install.

just a side note.

The solenoid will not work as effectively if it's setup to receive with the long red hose as shown above. It's best to keep all hoses from the solenoid to the wastegate and from the intake to the solenoid as short as possible.

It's best to drill an attachment into the pipe that leads from the turbo to the intercooler, or the pipe that leads from the intercooler to the throttle body, and grab the feed from there.

If the pressure source for the solenoid (the red hose that Wilch referred to) was tapped to the intake pipe before the intercooler, wouldn't the Profec be controlling to an inaccurate boost level? I was under the impression that there is a pressure drop across the intercooler so if the pressure before the intercooler was say 9psi, your engine isn't really getting 9psi but something less than that.

wilch - Can you also explain how the effectiveness of the solenoid can be different by using the hose from the intake manifold instead of tapping into the intercooler-to-throttle body pipe? Why does the use of a say 30cm longer hose affect it?

I looked at the AVC-R instructions and yes it is very similar except for the whole interfacing with the ECU to use the extra functions the AVC-R offers.

old thread, but im just about to buy a profec b or a avcr, is it worth paying that little extra for the avcr, and can any one tell me the extra features it has buy hooking up to the ecu?

thanx

It has a bit more configuration options and more information displayed.

Where does it rout through the firewall?

Mine goes through the driver's side front guard.

haha, the most fun bit. I ran my avc-r wiring through the passanger side hole where the rubber boot thing is. The easiest way to wire through it, is to fold the wires over a blunt flat screw driver and push it through.

Hi,

I've just got hold of one of these profec b spec 2's aswell.

Is there any way of me testing the unit off the car as I bought it 2nd hand and want to make sure its working before fitting it.

For example if the unit is connected and powered up, I then switch the controller off (stock boost) so now I can blow down the "NO port" (the red pipe in your photo) without a problem, when I then switch the unit on though I would have thought I wouldn't be able to blow through the solenoid anymore.. but I still can. Is this normal? does it need to be on the car getting a little bit of positive boost for the solenoid to kick in? or could the valve be defective??

Any info would be greatly appreciated Thankyou

Old thread, but for any guys still buying these, the plenum is probably not the best place to get the pressure feed from, and it evidently makes the lines a bit too long. I just installed this unit into my car and the solenoid looks like this:

ebc1.jpg

The feed comes from the intercooler return pipe so the engine will be seeing exactly the set boost, accounting for the pressure drop across the intercooler. The only possible problem i can think of is a leak between the turbo and IC, in which case the only warning sign would be the sound of stuff breaking. I'm not pushing the stock turbo hard though, i'd probably recommend getting the feed from just after the compressor if you're going to run it on the edge..

Guess it depends on whats available!

I have mine before the throttle body so passes the 1-2 psi (approx) drop after the cooler, but with a STD turbo, could be pushing it to hard.

Guess, 1. STD turbo, have near the turbo, 2. A/M turbo, have after the cooler!

just thinking :P

I installed one of these on the weekend. The hoses going to the solenoid should be as short as possible as they control the wastegate. As my install was on a stock RB20 I had a nice nipple on the compressor housing to connect to. I then ran the control wires for the solenoid across the firewall and in through the drivers guard along with the pressure hose from the fuel reg/plenum.

Hi guys,

any of you who have done this mod:

Have you also installer an apexi AFC II and an o2 sensor? In order to eliminate lean/rich running and flat sports around 3-6k rpm?

Or have you simply installed this mod without any further problems?

Cheers

hi guys,

i am trying to install the profec b onto my 33..

I am up to the part where you connect the hose (from the plenum) to the main profec unit..

one problem:

if you see the attached photo, of what its suppose to be when finished:

post-43911-1194312556_thumb.jpg

I.E.

- This photo is located at near end of the plenum, next to the wiper washer bottle.

- The bottom hose with the filter attached goes to the main control unit inside the cabin.

- Other hoses are put together simply as shown.

On the bottom hose (with the filter) I already have a hose in this place which goes to my boost guage inside the cabin..

how would i get around this to also connect up the profec line (as its suppose to be in the pic) ??

should I slice another T section .. ? :S

any help would be great, especially from those who have this installed with a boost guage..

cheers.

You can splice in another T if you like, just re-use you boost gauge line and tap it in as far back as possible inside the cabin.

You can also disconnect your original factory boost gauge (at the rear end of the bay-near the firewall) and use that plenum feed for the Profec. The tube is a bit thinner than standard though so you might need another tube but see how you go.

I use the back of the plenum for my boost feed on the Power FC Boost kit and it works fine.

thanks for the input birnie, much appreciated..

i was wondering if splitting a line which is "in-use" could be done, but now to think about it, the pressure should be equivalent in any of the hoses which come off the plenum ..

cheers mate :)

Hey guys i just picked one up today, Just wondering if install this myself, is it reccomended to tune on dyno? The current mods i got so far is stock, mainly just a pod filter and turbo back system...and HKS SSQV, no cooler yet, its currently getin oredered.. but yeh can i just boost it up a lil for now if install it?

Thanks,
