well as some of you know my car was defected and i had my appointment today, got my dad to take it in as recommended by a few people.

Turned out to be pointless in the end though getting my dad to take it because they were still pricks. spent hours last night at work cleaning under the car and doing exhaust even though it was already quiet for them in the end to defect me once again for a 'WORN UPPER CONTROL ARM BUSH'

As you can probably imagine i was peaking when dad told me then for him to tell me that he'd found out that i was not allowed to drive the car at all until my next regency appointment not even with a permit but to make things even more worse the bushes are going to cost me $280.

I am so wroked up that i had to get this off my chest, anyways thanks for listening guys and just touch wood you guys don't get defected!

Is that all they picked?

To be honest, I would have preferred they gave you a bigger list of things - almost makes me think they are going to do it again next time you go back... just to be "nice".

Best of luck anyway mate, hope it all goes very smoothly next time.

ye thats all they did me for but they said that they only check the things they noticed at the inspection and don't look at anything else but we'll see what happens.

don't have my next inspection booked yet cause i haven't got the bushes. Anyone know where i can get cheap decent bushes?

Best of luck with it mate, I hate how it's so hit and miss.

They should be required to do a THOROUGH inspection and list EVERYTHING they can find that doesn't comply, so you don't have this crap where people are heading back 3 and four times to get a car through.

Took the upper control arms off today, the bushes don't look worn at all to me! you may be able to see from the photos but maybe not. the thing is whilst i was taking these off i looked at my radius rod bushes which they put a warning on my defect notice saying that they will need replacing soon but wasn't essential and they looked cracked and worn to buggery, just shows there inconsistency!

In your first post you said they defected you for LOWER control arm bushes, Have you checked them out??

ye that was a mis-post, they defected me for upper control arm bushes and warned me about my lower radius rod bushes, got them mixed up sorry!

MattR, if you have the 8 bushes i am after brand new then i will definitiely be interested!

Ive got some new lower and upper bushes somewhere if i can find them, they are some brand i cant remember, yellow colour call me on my sat phone 0424211832

Are you able to post pics of the bushes? and r they adjustable?

    • Nah no bearings, just slip fit.  Would be a reasonably challenging but not impossible job to modify it to run bearings but I'm hoping that's not necessary as I may have well built one myself if I end up spending hours modifying it!
    • Brumbys with good shells are bloody expensive, I've looked at 2 "cheaper" cars, and walked away from both,  plus after some research spare parts are fairly sparce I'm starting to think that I missed the boat on finding a clean one that is straight (ish) and without alot rust I'm starting to think about a old Hilux as panels and other parts are much more available as they sold tens of thousands of them I use to be indecisive but now I'm not sure
    • A Brumby would probably fit a big metal toolbox in the back... this is how it begins
    • Picked up a new OEM boot seal for the MX5 today as the old one got ripped a bit by me being a idiot by seeing if I could fit a large metal tool box in it, it didn't fit, and ripped the seal with the corner of the tool box I am still waiting on time to get the cams and new balancer installed, as well as the repairs to the boot Time will not be an issue soon though
    • I was more thinking so it doesn't flop around as much rather than for rotating it. Once you have the balance right, it should rotate well enough, depending on how much resistance there is on the pivot. I think you said the pivot point was on a bearing though didn't you?
